After her husband died, she became increasingly paranoid. Mum and Dad went on holiday one year and I used to cycle down to see Alice each day after school. She was convinced they were not coming back - when they did, the doctor was called and essentially she was given the choice of going into hospital voluntarily or being committed by the doctor. I'm not sure what the method was - the outcome was she transferred to Deva, was in a secure multi occupancy ward, and lived the rest of her days there.
